Every Good Gift

Last night, our family was reading together James 1:12-18.  This passage includes verse 17, a familiar verse that reads,

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.

After we read I asked my son Benjamin, “Who gives us all the good gifts that we have?”  And he replied, “Santa.”

It was time for a theology lesson. . .

In Benjamin’s defense, we had just recently read the chapter in The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe where Father Christmas gives Peter, Susan, and Lucy the gifts they will need in the upcoming battle against the White Witch.  He had Santa on the brain.

Oh, how the innocent misunderstandings of children bring such joy to our lives.  This too is from above.
